Match Analysis

Haryana Steelers

The Haryana Steelers are going to be very disappointed in the manner they played their previous match. Not only was the defense extremely error-prone but its raiders also just went missing in the second half. The Haryana Steelers are a better team than that and we expect them to bounce back strongly. A lot seems to depend on the performance of Meetu for the Haryana Steelers. He is not the lead raider but he does play a very important role in backing up Vikash Kandola. We don't think Rohit Gulia is good enough to be relied upon in each match and so Meetu ends up being the deciding factor in the performances.

Surender Nada had a poor match and Jaideep gave up a lot of free points in their previous outing. They have been in better form and will need to be at their best against UP Yoddha.

UP Yoddha

A superb win against the Bengaluru Bulls would have given UP Yoddha a lot of confidence. That win came on the back of its defense as Nitesh Kumar and Sumit finally found some form. They neutralized the threat of Pawan Kumar Sehrawat and allowed their raiders to dominate. Also, the win came without a single point from Pardeep Kumar Narwal. It was Shrikant Jadhav who scored 15 points and led the way with support from Surender Gill as well.

Everything came together for UP Yoddha in the previous match and they ended up winning comfortably, however, we still doubt whether that same kind of performance is repeatable game after game. Carrying their lead raider is a big handicap and something that we think will end up costing them heavily.

Pardeep Narwal is averaging less than 7 points per game in PKL 2021-22. No other UP Yoddha raider has done better and in a tournament where the raiders end up dictating the pace of play, UP Yoddha is always going to struggle.

Verdict

We are going to bet on the Haryana Steelers to win. Even though the Steelers have been inconsistent, we think they have a better-balanced lineup. They are younger, quicker, and more motivated.
