Match Analysis

Puneri Paltan

Puneri Paltan is on a charge and that is great to see as the PKL becomes closer than ever. Its previous match was against U Mumba where the defenders took the lead and helped the team win against one of the stronger sides this season. Puneri Paltan had the same number of tackle points as it did raid points in the first half and it actually had more tackle points than raid points in the second half!

Vishal Bhardwaj picked up his first High-5 and Puneri Paltan will be desperately hoping for more of the same this time around. Nitin Tomar was a bit subdued as a raider, picking up just four points, but he did contribute in defense. Aslam Inamdar seems to have taken over as the lead raider for Puneri Paltan and that is not a bad thing at all either. Puneri Paltan has hit its stride and will be much more confident of winning this match but we do think its raiding unit is a bit weaker than UP Yoddha.

UP Yoddha

UP Yoddha may have started slowly but it is also turning things around and seems to be one of the most difficult teams to face at the moment. Nitesh Kumar picked up seven tackle points in the previous match and was an absolute treat to watch on the mat. He is the lynchpin of the defense and now that he has first High-5, teams better watch out for him in the upcoming matches as well. Pardeep Kumar also picked up a Super-10 and continues to plug away. he is far from his best but now that he is at least picking up points regularly, UP Yoddha has good depth in its raiding department. Shrikant Jadhav and Sureneder Gill are the other two raiders from UP Yoddha that have impressed quite a bit.

On paper, we think UP Yoddha is stronger and better balanced than Puneri Paltan.

Key stat

UP Yoddha and Puneri Paltan have quite a lot of similarities. They both have an experienced raider no longer at his best leading the offense and a defense that is extremely capable when in form. Nitesh Kumar (UP Yoddha) and Vishal Bhardwaj ( Puneri Paltan) have one High-5 each. The defense of the two teams also averages 10.80 and 10.44 tackle points per match respectively.

Verdict

There are so many close encounters in PKL 2021-22 that you simply cannot rule out the tie anymore. Out of 59 matches played so far, 12 have ended in ties and so a small bet on the tie to hedge your stake is always recommended. As far as the winner goes, we think UP Yoddha should be able to get the better of Puneri Paltan in this match. Both teams have a strong defense and so the difference may come down to depth in the raiding department. That is where UP Yoddha has the upper hand.

Bet on UP Yoddha to win.
