A tough start to PKL 2019 would have shaken the confidence of UP Yoddha. The team made some unforced errors and was made to pay for them by a superior side. Nitesh Kumar, the captain and one of the best defenders in the league, did his job but the defense around him kept on making mistakes.
The cover defender position is very crucial and that is a weak link for UP Yoddha this season. The cover defenders were lured into making mistakes and that often meant the other defensive payers had to follow suit and give up points.
We are also very surprised to see the absence of Rishank Devadiga on the mat. Unless he is nursing some injury, there is just no reason for him not be playing a pivotal role on the UP Yoddha offense.
Monu Goyat has joined the team with a bruised reputation after his last season with the Haryana Steelers and he will need to find his best form to be able to lead the UP Yoddha raiding unit against one of the best defensive teams in the league.
Gujarat Fortunegiants
The Gujarat Fortunegiants began their PKL 20198 campaign right where they left off last season. The side seemed to be in perfect step and defeated the defending champions of Pro Kabaddi with ease in their opening match.
The biggest strength for the Gujarat Fortunegiants is its ability to find young players and groom them to be world-class kabaddi players.
The raiding unit is going to be led by Sachin Tanwar, who was one of the finds of the season. Sonu, another young player playing with the Gujarat Fortunegiants this season scored 5 raid points at a 100% strike rate in the opening match and he could be another raider to watch out for in this season.
GB More and Rohit Gulia are proven quantities in the raiding department and ensure that the Gujarat Fortunegiants don’t have to worry about being dependent on one single player.
The defense of the Gujarat Fortunegiants is probably among the best in the league. Parvesh Bhainswal, Sunil Kumar, and Sumit Kumar make a very good defensive unit that is technically very good and will continue to make very few errors in the matches to come.
